How To Draw Lewis Structures:
Here are some rules to know when drawing lewis structures as it relates to Organic Chemistry.

1.  Hydrogen can only form 1 bond
2.  Boron and Aluminum usually forms 3 bonds as a neutral atom.
3.   Carbon prefers to have 4 bonds.
4.  Nitrogen prefers to have 3 bonds.
5.  Oxygen usually forms 2 bonds as a neutral atom
6.  Halogens like Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, and Iodine typically have 1 bond.

These rules generally work when the element is neutral - that is, when they have no formal charge.  In the case of Nitrogen, it typically has 3 bonds as a neutral atom (NH3).  When it has 4 bonds, it will have a positive formal charge (NH4+).  When it has 2 bonds, it will have a negative formal charge (NH2-).

This also applies to other elements like Oxygen.  Oxygen likes to have 2 bonds (H2O) as a neutral atom.  When it has an additional bond (3 bonds), it will have a positive formal charge (H3O+).  When it has 1 bond, it will have a negative formal charge (OH-).
